Tennis Elbow and Golfers Elbow

Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow are two common injuries that affect athletes, particularly those who play racquet sports or golf. Both conditions involve pain in the forearm muscles and can limit a person’s ability to participate in their sport of choice. Understanding these two conditions is key to preventing them from occurring and managing symptoms when they do occur.

Tennis Elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, occurs when the tendons on the outside of your elbow become inflamed due to overuse or repetitive motions such as gripping a tennis racket too tightly. Symptoms include pain radiating down your arm with activities involving gripping objects like lifting weights or opening jars; tenderness at the outer side of your elbow joint; weakness in grip strength; difficulty extending wrist fully while making a fist; and even swelling around the area if left untreated for an extended period of time. Treatment options vary but may include rest, physical therapy exercises targeted towards strengthening weak muscles surrounding affected area (forearm extensors), icing/heat therapy for soreness relief, anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen/naproxen sodium (if needed) along with bracing/splinting affected joint during activity periods.

Golfer's Elbow is similar yet different than Tennis Elbow because it affects inner part of forearm muscle instead which results from repeated flexion motion used during golf swing leading up to inflammation inside elbows bony bump called medial epicondyle causing discomfort & limited range movement near this region . Symptoms will be same except localized pain will be present on inner side rather than outer side , treatment plan remains same however stretching / strengthening exercises should focus more toward flexor group located within forearm.

In conclusion both Tennis & Golfer's elbows can cause significant limitation if not treated properly so it best advised seek medical attention right away whenever any type discomfort noticed around forearms especially after engaging into certain sporting activities.
